Developmental MilestonesThis is a time of changes for how teenagers think, feel, and interact with others, and how their bodies grow. Most girls will be physically mature by now, and most will have completed puberty. Boys might still be maturing physically during this time. Your teen might have concerns about her body size, shape, or weight. Eating disorders also can be common, especially among girls. During this time, your teen is developing his unique personality and opinions. Relationships with friends are still important, yet your teen will have other interests as he develops a more clear sense of who he is. This is also an important time to prepare for more independence and responsibility; many teenagers start working, and many will be leaving home soon after high school.

Developmental MilestonesThis is a time of many physical, mental, emotional, and social changes. Hormones change as puberty begins. Most boys grow facial and pubic hair and their voices deepen. Most girls grow pubic hair and breasts, and start their period. They might be worried about these changes and how they are looked at by others. This also will be a time when your teen might face peer pressure to use alcohol, tobacco products, and drugs, and to have sex. Other challenges can be eating disorders, depression, and family problems. At this age, teens make more of their own choices about friends, sports, studying, and school. They become more independent, with their own personality and interests, although parents are still very important.

Positive Parenting TipsFollowing are some things you, as a parent, can do to help your child during this time:
Amazing, well in order to get a social security card you need a ID well just so happens in my state a child 14 yrs old and older can get a state ID at the rmv, well he got it and something about that picture ID just made him smile from cheek to cheek he is so proud that he has this, it makes him feel more and more grown up. so glad that is taking care of check that off my list, with that applied for a social security card and that was sent to us he signed it and thats done check that off the list. with that comes the explaining of what is a social security card?, why do we need it? and also the explanation which I did prior about signatures and why a hand written signature is important and to keep it the same and how do you want to sign your signature with a middle initial or not?and documents in your life that will require your signature and social security number. next on the list of things to do is his own savings account at the bank, with his own name on it. he is very intrigued with a credit card, I explained its not free money you have to pay it back I told him we will worry about that later in life lets established savings first and a relationship with the bank and show a history of saving money. Its funny the questions teenagers have about life, but its good and shows they are learning and growing I would rather have questions instead of just doing it with out asking
It hasn't been the easiest road. Thank god I research things and cross reference and make calls. I probably wouldn't of got any where if I didn't, People make it sound easy oh call this agency or do this and that. No not that easy. let me begin with my nephew never really got a clear diagnosis it was always guessing oh it sounds lie this oh he will grow out of it or whatever. but grow out of what and sounds like what?? whats that mean? first thing after the IEP by the school, they also do a big psych eval which is different types of testing for IQ, social emotional comprehension, etc.,,,,and thats how the IEP begins which you meet with IEP team once a year to plan the school year. Then theirs the outside professional much better than a school eval , eval, which is usually private pay sometimes the Ins company will pay, this eval gives you a diagnosis , this eval weighs more with agencies and services you might be eligible for. Then theirs the 3 year eval under the IDEA act that your child with a IEP is suppose to have done by the school it sees how far they have come its all that testing all over again. In my cAse, my nephew was due for his 3 year eval the school kept saying next year even tho I had the last eval which was over 3 years old long story short I won that bAttle. that eval is scheduled but reaching this point you feel like your not getting anywhere, you feel like I give up, you feel like how can I do this Dont give up, Im telling you, you have to know your rights there are so many agencies in each state that will help and yes its a matter of finding them. I am finally like because this Dr who is doing the eval knows a professional that we know and now someone finally knows exactly what Im looking for the questions I want answered, and what the future possible holds so this is free from the school. In the mean time all that waiting for the outside eval well I got that call just 2 days ago and they(Ins Co) approved that eval so I went from arguing for a eval to being on a waiting list to 2 evals scheduled, which is perfectly legal to do. from this I will know our next move, I think it will finally all work out
